So this weekend, I spent some time working on a portrait of my fiancée Megan. I drew out the face with graphite on paper, and then did the painting with watercolor. It’s about 18″ x 20″.
I’m pretty pleased with how it came out, as it will likely serve as the start of a yet another series of work…this time focusing on portraiture.

Did little experimenting tonight in the studio. Took one of my mixed media on ride paper pieces inspired by Japanese paintings….and added Batman. Makes compete sense I think.
Actually finished these two little gold leaf paintings tonight.
I’ve been spending lots of time in the studio and even more traveling the northeast taking work to galleries.
Here’s a quick update pic on some of the pieces that have been moving along slowly with layering and some new ones.
That’s a Veggie Tales piece in the back. Two ODB portraits in the middle. And the continuing Mickey sculpture in the back right. And of course Robocop, and Bimbo and Betty Boop in the foreground.
I’ve been enjoying early Spring, and the end of another semester of school and have been out of the Studio for a while. But I’m catching up now. Here’s the metal leaf pieces I’m catching up with. Follow me on Instagram to keep up to date as well @jeruggles. Or just search #ruggles
I’ve been continuing with my newest series of work based off of 100 Love Sonnets (Cien Sonetos de Amor) by Pablo Neruda. The first 6 are now all up on my website. Follow the link below.
